The Pakistani parliament has approved a law that significantly strengthens the protection against violence and harassment of women in the workplace.
The new law enacted by the Pakistan Human Rights Authority, with the help and pressure of women’s rights groups and lawyers, replaces the old law enacted in 2010.
The new law broadens the definition of workplace to include both formal and informal workplaces as well as students.
The law also broadens the definition of harassment to include all discrimination based on gender, whether it is sexual or not. The new law entered into force on January 14, 2022.
